OSAKA, JAPAN — Against a backdrop of roaring engines and high-stakes drama, #300 James Wilson of the United States delivered a championship-worthy performance to claim victory at the Osaka Grand Prix 2025, the thrilling opening round of the WGP#1 Waterjet World Series held from May 15–18 at the stunning Nishikinohama Beach, this high-octane event drew over 200 athletes from 21 countries across five continents, kicking off the season in spectacular style.
The PRO SPORT GP – PRO SKI GRAND PRIX class was nothing short of stacked. With 30 of the world’s fastest riders battling for just 18 qualifying spots, every second counted, and every turn was do-or-die. Global favorites included :
#90 Kevin Reiterer (Austria) – The reigning World Champion, known as "Superman"
#37 Toshi “Samurai” Ohara (Japan) – The home nation’s #1 seed
#300 James Wilson (USA) – Last year’s WGP#1 runner-up
#111 Jayden Richardson (Australia) – The “Oceanic Shark” and red-hot rising star
In the opening moto, #111 Jayden Richardson got the holeshot and delivered a flawless run, leading from start to finish. #300 James Wilson chased hard but couldn’t close the gap, finishing in second place.
The final moto saw a complete turnaround. Wilson, despite a slower start, showed championship poise. Methodically closing in on Richardson, he made a decisive pass mid-race and never looked back. His aggressive, calculated riding held off late charges from both Richardson and Japan’s #88 Mao Sato, who delighted the local fans with a strong second-place finish in that moto.
